Occam Recruits Translational Leader for Gene Editing Leader Mammoth
In February of 2024, Occam recruited Gabor Veres, PhD, as Senior Vice President of Translational Sciences for Mammoth Biosciences, a biotech developing diagnostic tests and therapies using CRISPR systems. The company was founded in 2017 by Jennifer Doudna, Trevor Martin, Janice Chen, and Lucas Harrington of Stanford University and is richly funded by numerous investors, including Mayfield, 8VC, Redmile Group, Foresite Capital, Tim Cook, Brooks Byers, and Jeff Huber.
Gabor Veres is a highly experienced professional who has led preclinical research and early development for an impressive array of biotechnology companies and developed cell and gene therapy products. He most recently served as the Chief Scientific Officer at Vedere Bio, prior to which he was the Vice President and Head of Genetic Therapy Research at BioMarin. Before joining BioMarin, he worked at bluebird bio as the Vice President of Pre-clinical Research, where he initiated and coordinated numerous research programs aimed at viral gene delivery to treat genetic and acquired diseases. Veres has successfully led several projects from pre-clinical research to clinical development, including ZYNTEGLO® and SKYSONA™.
